on Oct. 31, 1943(hollween) The USS Borie entered into a ver intereting battle with the U-405. The two ships where locked in close combat after U-405 was blown to the surface. And when I say close I mean close like stuck together. The crew of the Borie came on deck with tommyguns and 45's to attack the U-Boat crew who maned there guns. One sailer took a sheath knife and therw it at a crewmen maning a gun in the U-Boat hiting him in the gut. A Chief on the DD took a spent spent 4-inch shell and threw it at another crewmember and nocked the man into the water. Talk about a interisting battle. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Another interesting battle :hmm:

the close dogfight at a black point range during 35 minutes of the U-210 and the HMCS Assiniboine, with deck guns and machine guns.

finally the boat was rammed and sunk

Not really. The battle as portrayed was a combination of the Borie - U-405 battle and the one between USS Buckley (DE-51) and U-66.

The U-boat.net link has a camoflage paint scheme to die for.:|\\

The actual plot of the movie is taken directly from the book of the same name, by D.A. Rayner. In the book the Allied ship is a Flower (or so I'm told; I haven't read it yet).

I also forgot to mention that Buckley's battle was the first time since the War of 1812 that a United States gave the order "Stand by to repel boarders".
