View Full Version : Setkey problems / Cavalier ?

I got Setkey 1.11 to work once. During the first patrol after using Setkey, the game CTD. So I restarted and reloaded my last save, and the keys I designated with Setkey aren't working now. So I exited game, and tried Setkey one more time.
Now this time when I started Setkey, it would start with the main menu, I can choose a key to change, then click on Edit Current Key Map. After I do that, Setkey freezes up on that Key Board looking screen and have to close it out. Then I get that prompt saying this program has failed to respond, and I click on End Now.
So I downloaded Setkey 1.3, installed it, chose path to Command Cfg, and then ran Setkey 1.3. Would'nt you know it, same thing happens. So I left it frozen for about 5 minutes thinking it might take a few minutes to activate, but no, so I closed it out again. But I remember the first time I ran Setkey 1.11, it worked perfectly, and the keys I chose worked in game. Now I can't get it to work at all.
Has this happened before to anyone else, is there a fix ?

A "fix" would be to edit the command cfgs manually but that's pretty tideous...
Maybe you should ask that rather in the mod workshop forum.

I'm not sure what to do. The developer has stated he can no longer support the program. I suggest you copy the command file to desktop, disable all programs (including internet, virus checker, and firewall) not needed to run your operating system, and try to run the program on the desktop copy.
If this doesn't work, see if you can find someone in your city who plays SHIII and see if they can make the changes for you.
If this doesn't work PM me, send me the file with the changes you want, and I will make them for you and send the file back to you.
(P.S. If you are an USC fan the deal is off!!!):rock::rock::rock:

I tried using it once and couldn't even get it to work (too many conflicts with other programmes)...I just gave up in the end

Thanks Irish1958, I will consider those options, and PM you only for last resort.
I may try to tackle manually doing it.
It shouldn't take to long, it's only about 10 keys I want changed. We'll see what happens, If I still can't get it right, then I guess I'll have to PM Irish1958.

OK, I found a cool tool from Timetraveler called SH3 Key Checker, and you run it while you are changing the Command_en cfg file. It is very easy, and don't need Setkey anymore. Took a test spin, and works perfectly. I placed the modified cfg file in JSGME as not to overwrite the Stock cfg file.
Another successful modding experience. :know:
