I've spent many hours in them myself. The United flight training center is here in Denver.

Cool. The weird part is, they feel real! Try even going across the grass after a landing - You can feel the grass under you.

That's what a Class D simulator is all about. And why I have to spend three hours in one every six months.
Three hours every six months-I have just spent 8 hours in the A300 sim at Lufthansa flight training in Frankfurt over the last two days!!Raw data single engine ILs to CAT 1 limits then go around followed by a fuel leak and diversion, and that was just the warm-up!

I have about 2 hours total time in it (appt didn't show up, so I hung around). Did some perfect landings at Boeing field. Plus they pulled the tricks on me like an MD-80 cutting in line just as I was about to go, etc.
I did crash it on purpose, but after the initial jolt, the sim just resets. Had to find out what happens though.

They could have made it smaller, but it needs to be big enough for some flight simmers' egos. :arrgh!:

I don't understand the size myself either. I have personally had extremely high resolution lasers shot in my eye (no I am not blind) and the mechanism for it was smaller than a pencil, yet I had a full Windows 2000 screen right in front of me! What the hell is this big thing supposed to be? It looks like something designed in the 70's or 80's!!!
-S
PS. The lasers will probably be replacing the monocule found in like Apache helo's. Nothing obstructs the vision of the pilot and much more information can be displayed directly on the retina than can with a monocule. It looks cool I tell ya!

What the heck is that? A HUD?!?
That's......that's.......uh. That's actually kind of interesting. I guess they're just banking a laser/light off the "helmet" to do the display. I would expect a bank of 4 monitors surrounding the pilot to give her a little more field. Unless that's IFR training, and then the instructors would want to be able to just blank out the display.
A far cry from the IFR simulator I trained on.
