I need to start a new carreer and I would like to start with a VIIC or VIIB (with the ability to upgrade to a VIIC). Am I correct in assuming that if I start in the 2nd flotilla that I will start with a VIIB but be unable to upgrade to a VIIC? Im clearly a little confused by all of this if someone could help me out.

Thats the link ive been looking for, but it keeps timing out. Is that info posted anywhere wlse that you are aware of? Also since I have installed the GW Supermod and tried to start a new carreer both the 7th and 1st flotillas are based out of kiel in 1939 even though it says that the 1st should be out of Wilhelsmshaven. Is there a bug or am I missing something? Thanks.

Still cant figure out why with GW Supermod the 1st and 7th flotillas are based out of Kiel in 1939. Anyone else had this problem? Also, isnt it possible to get an IXD or IXD2?

I don't know about the two bases in '39'. As far as the U-boats....you need to earn those swab! You get these through earning renown and it helps if you know Donitz personally:up: Anyway, you get renown for sinking enemy vessels. Friendly and neutral vessels give you negative renown. Going all the way back to your home port gives you renown. I do not believe shooting down airplanes gives you renown:shifty: but it is fun!

1st Flottila
09.35 - 05.41 Kiel
06.41 - 09.44 Brest (France)
2nd Flottila
09.36 - 05.40 Wilhelmshaven (for the first weeks in Kiel)
06.40 - 05.41 Wilhelmshaven/Lorient (France)
06.41 - 08.44 Lorient (France
7th Flottila
06.38 - 09.40 Kiel
09.40 - 05.41 Kiel / St. Nazaire
06.41 - 05.45 St. Nazaire
And the first IXD2 were built 1940-42

She needs some more speed!!!

You do get renown for shooting em down but only about 50, unless you get into your config files and mess with the settings.

Still shooting down airplanes is not as easy in GW as it was in the original game;)
Far more realistic. Whenever a plane apears I dive as fast as I can

I prefer brest or st nazire as its easy navigation out to sea im not used to heavy navigating with the U boat yet but i know full well i can do it in the akula.

I picked the 2nd Flotilla because of the large selection of the VII and IX types
if i,m right they get almost all VII types and the IX types

And range, you just can't get to the North Atlantic hunting grounds in one with enough fuel to get home. I had a type II for about six patrols out of Kiel hunting mainly in the North Sea. I managed to earn enough renown to get myself a type VIIC which is far superior in range, speed and firepower.

Why sure it does!
Renown earned per plane:
B24 = 100
Wellington = 70
Sunderland = 70
PBY = 70
Avenger = 50
Swordfish = 20
Hurricane = 20

My ideal hunting grounds are not in the atlantic like mid way in or places like that i prefer places like the western approches or choke points like that another good place to hide around is the mull of kintyre or the kattergat.
All the shipping has to pass into the western approches or mull of kintyre at some point to reach liverpool or bristol or the east coast of the UK there fore i see no point in hunting right out to sea where there is less chance of seeing a ship.
I wonder if anyone has tried to go through the war with only a IIA? It would be intresting and a true test of skill to find only the best targets (BB's and Liners for example)

Thats a minor oversight with the game really. Technically speaking the 2nd flot should ONLY get the VIIB, and thats because it uses one in 39. But since its flagged for type 7's because of that, you'll see ALL Varients of it as they become avaialble.
Sometime in 1940, the 2nd flot starts to use type 9's exclusively, and for most of the game, the patrol grids will reflect that. All i can say is if your in the 2nd flot, and are using a VIIC, your gonna cry when you get a patrol grid to GR89 or DB98 :D
--------------------------------
To clear any remaining confusion:
What flotilla to go to, depends on what kind of patrols you like to do:
Short range:
29th flotilla, uses type 7's. (or 1st flot in early war for type II's)
Mid range:
1st, 7th, and 11th flotilla's. They use type 7's.
Long range:
2nd, 10th, and 12th flotilla's. They use type 9's. With 12th flotilla beiing the best place to aquire an IXD2.

I started in the 2nd Flotilla Saltzwedel out of Wilhelmshaven with a VIIB. I have completed two patrols. (TGW)
I looked at the choices for a transfer and it tells me two Flotillas - Weddigen and Wegener. But I don't know where those Flotillas are based.
I want to get to St. Nazaire as soon as I can, but I don't know what Flotilla that is.
Should I stay at Wilhelmshaven in the 2nd Flotilla for the time being?
I really don't want to get transferred to Kiel.
I want to get patrols in the North Atlantic, but from Wilhelmshaven I have to go over the top of the British Isles. I'm not going through the Channel.
Also. if I wanted to attack a port, which is the easiest?

@ Rob
The 7th Flot Wegener goes to St Naz in around Sept 1940
You cant transfer till 3 patrols anyway so the choice is yours mate

Thanks for the info.
I looked up the Flotillas in Uboat.net and it doesn't even list Weddigen or Wegener.
