Remember the story of the passport picture of the girl showing her shoulders? Well here's another silly one.

It does sound stupid, but to be fair the family has got to take most of the blame for leaving it to the last minute to check if they all had valid passports.

It's a requirement based on current limits in face recognition software. It's not silly. It's something we're not used to hearing about yet.

But they should have let the child go just this once for cuteness. :D

I'm afraid it's their own fault - leaving it too late and then not reading the instructions properly - this leaflet is included with every passport application form: http://www.passport.gov.uk/downloads/PLE_04Eng-Photo.pdf (http://www.passport.gov.uk/downloads/PLE_04Eng-Photo.pdf)

Biometrics are far too imprecise (with the possible exception of fingerprints) to be used for this sort of thing. They should wait until the technology is more advanced before implementing it.

That was a textbook example on how not to write an article. But then again, as far as I get it, The Sun isn't an entirely formal and serious deal. To put it that way.

Sad when this happens, that's all I can say. All we can do is adapt, I guess.
