Tonite is a great night folks. I finally figured out how to use those FAT I torps to their full potential!

It is July 14th, 1943 and I am off the coast of Morocco. I was shadowing a convoy for quite some time when the weather deteriorated to a medium fog with 11 kt winds. I had positioned myself for a perfect 90 degree AOB attack ahead of the convoy but since I couldn't see them they were not where I thought they would be when my sonar man reported that the convoy was about to cross my bow.

Now I have a pretty tricked out IXC/40 by this time in the war so rather than giving up hope I decide to do a sonar only attack. I noticed on my hydrophones that the convoy was just at 0 degrees bearing so I pinged the first merchant that registered at 0 degrees bearing. This should be the lead merchant I thought. So I set the TDC for a 0 degree bearing, a 90 degree port AOB, and set the tgt speed to 8 kts (this was the convoy speed from the initial BDU contact report). My sonar man reported that the convoy was 5800 meters away thanks to my newly installed active sonar range finder. So I dialed in 6000 meters for the range into the TDC.

Next I program the FAT torps for a 6000 meter straight run and then a 90 deg. port ladder so that the fish will swim through the convoy if they do not hit on the first pass. I set them to slow since I will need max range for the ladder pattern since I am already burning up 6000 meters on the straight run.

TORPEDO LOS! I let loose four fish programmed in this manner and man the hydrophones. I listen to my fish humm towards the convoy for over four minutes and then suddenly:

TORPEDO IMPACT!
TORPEDO IMPACT!

NICE! The fish must have hit during their ladder pattern since they were in the water much longer than needed for the 6000 meter straight run. I must have laid that ladder pattern right across the center of the convoy!

Just imagine the shock of those merchant men watching the wake of a fish miss them and then turn around for another try!

Well another minute later I hear bulkheads bursting in my hydrophones and then my crew shouts "SHE'S GOING DOWN!". One less MEDIUM MERCHANT for the allied war effort!

Man those FAT torps are cool! A BVR (Beyond Visual Range) kill is amazing when you think the year is 1943! Gotta love good ol' German engineering!

And to top it off I am playing NYGM 2.2 with 100% realism! WOOT! :arrgh!:
