Silent Hunter III Screenshots
Preview of a preview

While you wait patiently for more info on Silent Hunter III, let me share a slice of the SH3 world. As you remember, in Aces of the Deep, there were no ports or cities, just the same green/brown terrain with patches of snow. In Silent Hunter I, there were coastal cities, nicely detailed, but no matter how close you got to the shore they were always in the distance. In SH2, you had actual docks and U-boat pens, even some shore facilities, but they were abandoned ghost towns.

Well, in Silent Hunter III, you are closer than ever to a virtual world. Allow me to demonstrate how big the world in SH3 is through this little sea story.

Yes, as you can see, this ain't a teleport subsim! Starting point was Kiel. Note the navigator functions, very cool.

My hearty crew decked out in rain gear, diligently searching for the enemy.

A radio report, a slow convoy and we are in the neighborhood!

After a long night of searching and terrible weather, Onkel Neal pulls the plug and lets the crew get some sleep.

Morning comes, and what a fine sight. We don't dare get closer but...

...SH3 has an external view, so we decide to "leave" our U-boat and go look around.

We direct the camera into the harbor...

...these guys should be working or something.

We are now going ashore, past the factory...

....into the courtyard next to the church...

...to the other side of town!

Goodness, the world just keeps going and going!

Note: screenshots here are compressed for the web, actual game graphics are far superior.

More to come very soon....
