'Submarine Capital' Sign Vandalized

Groton - Yellow paint was splattered across the submarine-shaped sign on the east side of Interstate 95 sometime last night, state police said. The sign, which stands in a thicket of trees and announces Groton as "The Submarine Capital of the World" because of the nearby Naval Submarine Base, also had an anti-war slogan and profanity spray-painted along its lower half. Police are investigating.

What morons! I hope the Navy and the city build a whole new sign that's ten times as big with neon lights and flashing strobes just to tick off those jerks!

even if it was in bad shape, there was no need to defile it.

yes they should build a neon flahsing one. Maby one with TLAM's and pop-up machineguns that target only these kind of people.

Sad, just plain sad. I'm sure the US is going to recall all of our submarines and retire them because some jacka$$ decided to deface a sign. If anything they offended the honor and memory of thousands of submariners past and present, their familes, and a whole community. I'm sure they don't have the courage to stand up and admit what they have done either. Very sad.
