Default In The Navy?

Just curious how many of you have served or is serving in the navy right now. (US or any other navy.)

I would like to hear about your experience.

6 years USN 1972-78 as a sonarman aboard USS Schofield(DEG-3) & USS Elmer Montgomery(FF-1082). Semi-circumnavigated the globe in both directions. Found 7 confirmed Soviet subs. Actual battle station was on MK 114 Underwater Battery Fire Control System(also maint tech for same). Actually had a crewmember of one of the subs I tracked in the Med in 1976 tow my car home from Burbank to Pasadena, CA in 1998. Good luck with those exams Kapitan. My old Division officer aboard the Montgomery, Ens. John Stufflebeam went on to make flag rank, was a rear admiral & Pentagon spokesman during the Afghanistan war and commanded the Abraham Lincoln battle group during the Iraq War. I believe he is a vice admiral now.

I sailed an inflatable pool raft. Made Captain, too. Nice boat, so long as the youths are not doing cannonballs.

1969-70, USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887), rebuilt WWII Gearing-Class destroyer. Patrolled the gun line (fire support for the marines), lifeguard duty off Hanoi (never picked up anybody), escort duty for carriers Ranger and Bon Homme Richard (did pick up the crew of a damaged Phantom who ditched while on approach). Only 4 months off Viet Nam, but a lot of interesting experiences.
