Default Manning the same sub in MP?

I think it would be great if it was possible to man the same boat in multiplayer, like in Dangerous Waters. Captain would basically just bark orders while other players would be chief engineers, weapons officers or warrant officers. I believe with careful game design eg.with exact knowledge how sub crew operats, each role would have plenty of stuff to do from manually controlling the valves or food rations to commanding entire departments of enlisted men. Imagine if it all would be possible also in grand campaign mode...Now this is what I really want to see in SH4

nice to dream...

even just to do single attacks with a skipper, sonar guy and weapons officer would be fun.

I think, with all due respect, that although it might be fun to do such things in flight and tank sims, where every station has an exciting role (drive tank, fire machine gun, fire cannon, etc.), I think it'd be more dull in sub games. Simply sitting there at your hydrophone throughout the whole mission sounds a bit boring to me.

As for doing it large-scale with Chief Engineers, Warrant Officers, etc., I never thought of that before. Might be interesting. But then again, I'd rather have MP patrols with each player given his or her own boat.

In most multicrewing, crews control more than one aspect e.g. In a tank, one is commander and main gunner, the other drives and operates the hull gun. In planes, usually there is a pilot, and the other crews the guns/bombadier position.

In a sub sim, I could see one as the captain/ nav, the other being weapons/engineering.

Something on those lines.

Everyone just sailing on his own on vast pacific ocean? As far as I know Americans didn't have wolfpacks so what would be the fun of sailing on your own in MP...besides it probably would be nightmare to code all those convoys on campaign map and others for multiple subs and synchronizing it all. When you put players on the same boat on the other hand you have the same 'player universe' which things take place and that probably is easier to code. And that would be real cooperative not just individual boats sailing all over the place.

It would be nice to allow two player per human submarine: One for navigating and the other for firing. I have many times thought when playing SH1/2/3 with manual TDC that I would appreciate the help of someone manning my sub and taking care of not getting too close to the escorts, so I can concentrate on weapons
