Default @ Deamon ....look at this.

Hi Deamon.... sure you will found interesting this picture.

It is from another book the Kpt. J. Spiess wrote, "Submarines !..... 6 years of cruise in submarines" printed in 1930.

It is WW1 periscope viewfinder view.

It shows a "straight ahead" view in the viewfinder center, plus the viewfinder is surrounded by a 360 degree view.

Very rare and interesting.......

I have this and others

This is actualy an experimental perigraph/periscope combination. At the beginning of the periscope developement prior to WWI there were many attempts made to increase the narrow field of view of a periscope. All kind of possibilities were explored: Perigraphes, binocular periscopes, combined ocular/diffusing screen periscopes, panorama periscopes, omniscopes and stuff. But only the simple periscopes proved to be of practical use. The problem with the perigraph was for example that the 360° ring view narrowed down the actual periscope view. That was of cours very disadvantageous in tactial situations, so it never made in to the regular sub. What was used on a few boats was the ocular/diffusing screen periscopes on some K.u.K. boats. But again the diffusing screen was to diffuse to display small ditails of the targets. So it wasn't used on the other boats.

Actualy the next article i wanted to write for my site is about periscopes.

I'm fine, thanks. I just pop in here occasionally to see how you're doing. What you have here is a killer sim idea, and it'll be wonderful to see something come of it when time allows.

I'll do what I can, Daemon. We're probably best discussing this in email.
