German TV has just braodcasted the second half of the pilot for the new remake of the old series. I must say, I am impressed. It reminds me very much of "Space-Above and Beyond". it has left behind the too childish interpretation details of the classical series, it has some ecellent performance by actors (especially Edward James Olmos as Adama is a hit), the story is more complex, the cylons more mysterious, and the overall atmosphere is more threatening and gloomy. I alos like the new design of the space combat scenes, no more star Wars actions, more "realistic" flight and fight models that at least give the impression to have something to do with "correct physcis". That they use cannons and missiles instead of lasers and all fighting takes place in (physically correct) silence was almost enligthening. Pseudo-docu-style...
What I find most facinating is how the changes in character interpretation and story setting turned the Galactice theme into something completely different. Little changes, but overwhelming effect. To balance my enthusiasm, some of the young figures in the story I find to be filled with too streamlined actors, the typical TV-faces, young, smart-looking, empty faces - mass production, somehow. Apollo for example is played by an actor who does not convince. Too many people simply look too beautiful and too clean - and also act as shallow as that, as if having brought in from some daily soap for teens. The older figures i find to be played by excellent actors. The reinterpretation of Balthar's role is a big surprise, too. I'm looking forward to see the series. How many episodes does it have?

13 in series 1 and 14 in series 2.
http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/episodes/ But on Gateworld it is showing the second series as having 20 episodes http://www.gateworld.net/galactica/s2/index.shtml So not really sure about series 2 Got to admit, i never really got into the mini series, so havent watched the main series yet. But I might get around to watching it one of these days. But if they keep making new Stargate episode then it has absolutely no chance

They JUST showed it? Man, y'all need the availability of cable like in the USA. Granted, I'm sure that we could say the same thing about certain shows in England and the like...looking forward to the day that the nude news shows in Canada are shown here. jk

Legality is somewhat grey in the area, but eMule is a file sharing program. I enjoy BSG. The latest episode is playing right about now in Europe. It's well into Season 2 now. I find it fairly enjoyable, I enjoyed the original as a child and find it quite a bit more refreshing then the classic series. A bit on the strange side to see Starbuck got a sex change in the last 20 years, but that's okay. She's easier on the eyes now
The plot for the most part seems to follow through from the original series, that just tend to take different paths to get to the end result. It at least keeps it a bit fresh if you've seen the old one. I'm especially fond of Edward James Olmos myself. He's a much better Adama then that white haired out fellow. I can't even remember his name now. :hmm:

1st: Legality. Forget it, Skybird, its not.
2nd:Emule sucks, use bittorrent. Waaaay faster, but a bit more complicated in handling. 3rd: We have cable and pay TV in germany, we´re in Europe - not on the far side of the moon! The thing is that most TV Shows are synchronized, meaning some voice actor speaks the original text in german (and they do it very well mostly). This in itself is a time consuming process, and for reasons of streamlining work the synchronization usually only begins when AT LEAST one series has completley aired. 4th: I like galactica. Stargate IS better, but galactica is okay. There are some plot twist that I could do without (The friggin teacher got well again through some blood transfusion...yeah, right!), but generaly i like it. Starbuck as a woman is something that took me by surprise. |

I don't bother to messa round with it. I just wait until all episodes have been broadcasted. Makes for some nice Wednesday evenings until summer. Olmos also has a very good synchroniozed voice in German. He should ask that guy if he may transplant his vocal chords from him
