Hi,
I was wondering what happens if you take your sub off of the gridded area of the world map, so going somewhere as far away as Arkangel'sk, or if you round Cape of Good Hope and head for the Indian ocean. Is this possible, I would be interested to know but don't want to chance a long trip and find out, well, my world just ended! |

The whole world is modeled in SHIII, although it's quite unpopulated. There is, however, actual traffic outside the grids - including the Black Sea and the Indian Ocean. There doesn't seem to be much of anything in the Pacific (except around Australia).

I made a mission modelled after the fateful PQ-17 convoy. It takes place in the Barents Sea which is north of Murmansk and Archangel.
Had to put my own traffic in there though...

I went to Port Said in the Med a little while ago, and it is just outside the grid area. I was quite surprised, as it had a lot of traffic there and a whole pile of escorts near the entrance. I'd go again, but these places outside the grid (and even many places inside it) just take so long to get to, if there was nothing there when I reached my destination, I'd be a little annoyed.
