That's too bad. I can understand the Purple Heart denial but if the story is true those are definitely service connected injuries and should be compensated/treated.

Just treat the guy for free and don't give him the medal. If he recieves the treatment and still complaints - it's one thing. If he simply can't afford the treatments - that's totally differnt matter as it's not very uncommon in US if you don't have insurance. Those eye surgeries are very costly.
