Yup, that's one of the new late war schemes from the Merchant Variety Pack.

That is the WW2 version of the WW1-era 'Dazzle' camouflage. If only 'Dazzle' had lasted through 1945 in its more striking form. It has to be the coolest camouflage ever. The WW2 version pales in comparison with the likes of this:
![]() It's striking enough in black and white, but when you consider that this ship probably sported bright blues, reds and yellows, it's just amazing.

Alright cool,
All the other ships looked fine so I thought it must be a type of camo or something. Although I dont have the Merchant Variety Pack I have SH3 Commander and some other mods that might contain it... Thanks guys ![]() Wolfy |

I believe that sort of camouflage served a function. It is apparantly harder to guess the distance to the ship when camouflaged in such a way.

It does actually. Try looking at a Bismarck or Hipper with it's standard camo. Hard to tell which way it's pointing.

I built the Revell Flower class corvette and a Lindburg Minesweeper- did the dazzle camo on both, thinking the whole time how goofy it looked.
When I was finished, I left them to dry while I went to get my wife to show her the paint scheme. From about 10 feet, I was surprised how difficult it was to really make out details on the ships, even the direction they were facing. Wonder what 10 feet scales up to at 1/72? |
