Prologue: Ok, well, I was playing the naval academy convoy attack. (Yes I was bored.)
So after torpedoing and sinking a C2 and a small tanker it said I did all I had to do, but I wanted more. The destroyer gave chase and depth charged me. I rigged for silent running, submerged, shut off my engines, and set TC at 32 to wait it out. Ok, so it was like 10 seconds before I switched to freecam mode to take some screenshots, and I realized I was sinking. Epilogue: This is what happens when you are not paying attention. For this you have been warned. (I ended up dying.) ...You have been warned... |

I shut my engines off many times, and I never experience sinking. -Nightowl

Yeah, I always shut my engines off while using the hydrophone, and the neutral buoyancy created by my well-kept ballast tanks keep me hovering at a set depth.
The only times I've found myself sinking without noticing it are instances where I've sustained severe hull damage and, consequently, heavy flooding in compartments. By then it's usually too late to correct the problem, of course. |

Were you running silent? Silent running shuts off the pumps needed to keep the boat trimmed...don't know if that's modelled, but it wouldn't surprise me- the devs have shown astonishing attention to detail in some of the strangest places.

I had it happen once during a storm (luckily it was only 125m there) but never during normal weather.
Of course, I don't sit with engines off a lot. |

Wonder why you didn't get the depth read-outs while sinking? Are you using the latest patch?

As far as I am aware, You will sink if you are deep and going slowly. This is as it should be. I'm sure some of the old hands can share memories about AOTD here. You really had to limit how ling you could be at silent running for as you did indeed sink quite a bit.....

I hadn't played the game in a while, so I forgot that silent running also keep damage control from doing its job.
