Got a question about Ai. Running TMO 2.5 and RSRDC.
So I recently set up an attack on a 6 ship convoy with three escorts. As I was making my final observations to fire on my target, one of the escorts must have spotting my periscope because he came charging towards me and the convoy started zig zagging. I adjusted my solution, fired a wide spread of 4 and made the kill anyway. ![]() I evaded and did an end around and set up again for another attack. As the convoy approached I could see they were still doing zig zags. It was probably almost 24 hours later. In previous missions, I've noticed the convoys will stop zig-zagging after 12 hours or less. This one is still doing it almost a day later and they didn't detect me after the initial attack. Is this a bug, by design in TMO or historically accurate?

I don't think it's a bug, but I also don't think it's TMO related...From what I have read RSRDC changes the shipping layers and ship zig zags. Someone else may correct me and/or have better info for you.

You are right about RSRD changing the ship courses. As I understood it though, that only meant it increased or decreased the frequency of course changes. What I'm talking about is aggressive zig-zagging by the merchants to avoid being tracked by a sub. It makes trynig to get a solution very difficult.
I feel like they used go back to their normal state of "non-alertness" much quicker but this convoy I spooked went into "evasive mode" and hasn't come out of it for a day and I have not let them spot me again.

Never had that happen yet, but who knows?
If they continually zigzag, use it to your advantage, and keep end rounding them until you sink them all. Then they zigzag their happy little butts to the bottm!

Ducimus put more zigging into the shipping, but I thought that would be overwritten by RSRDC. It does sound odd. Perhaps they were able to hear you? |

Its possible but I would expect that the escorts would be coming for me if they detected me on their hydrophones.

You're dealing with zags due to the enemy has made contact with you, really more helming than course changes. In general, any time they make contact with you they helm and slow down. Usually they will helm for 12-24 hours after you've remained out of contact for period of time set by the mod, usually 30 minutes. However, I've seen other behavior, some groups the ships split and go in different directions and regroup later. I've yet to find values that explain why reactions can be different
