Gargamel,
Thanks for the info. As I haven't yet put GWX on my machine, I haven't had a chance to read its manual. All I had was the nearly-useless manual that came with the vanilla game. It may well have been co-inky-dink that my pings got the ASW ships on my tail.
I've noticed several things that seem to be broken in the stock game, compared to the manual and info files.
Note to self: install GWX on my laptop, for which the copy I just got through Amazon runs fine under Win7 and without the disk. This bodes well
Thanks again,
-- Zyg --

I have now successfully infiltrated Loch Ewe and only encountered one sub net. It is presently 12-12-1939 and there are no battleships in port. According to Jimbuna's information there should be a nelson but it is nowhere to be found. I am running GWX 3.0/Gold without any other mods but all I can find is one troop ship. I took what seemed to be the main entrance to the port and I was wondering if it could possibly be in the northern "side" entrance. I was also curious to know if these dates for major ships in port are the only times to find big ships the harbors or if they can be found at other times as well. Thanks for all of your help and happy hunting!

Nothing much in Loch Ewe 12-12-39 but these big boys do attend if you visit at the correct date.

In my ventures into Loch Ewe I didn't find much so I left safely and I am heading into Scapa Flow for fun now. As far as I can see there is no actual harbor on the map but I am just heading where it is labeled Scapa Flow on the map because that looks to be like the heart of the harbor. Is this the place where I will find valuable ships? If not please let me know. Does anyone know of an accurate map of Scapa Flow with things such as mines, blockships and sub nets as simulated in game? I can't seem to find a way around the blockships. As a final question, I was wondering if the game simulates indicator or sensing loops. Thanks, sorry for the mistakes and happy hunting!

The Mission Editor will allow you to look at Scapa Flow in the smallest detail.

As you can see below, the area can be a gold mine provided your there at the correct time.

Tip: HMS Hood is anchored there from 29-9-40 to 15-10-40

There normally is at least 1 Battleship in the flow and sometimes Cruisers and AMC's as well as various merchants.
Last time in Scapa Flow i got sunked by a NET.
A net.

Ok, thanks Jimbuna, I will definitely do that and I plan to make a map of the defenses of Scapa Flow for all of us to use. Also, thank you Gargamel for the link. That is a really cool site! Happy hunting and thanks to everybody!

I tend to have loads of easy kills in Hartlepool. Most I've ever seen are two destroyers as defense and I've ever sunk or escaped them every time.

Now, if you've got a Type IX I recommend a 'tour' between the Port of Spain and Curacao - best I ever found was two T2 tankers a light tanker and a small merchant at Curacao...then two T3s outside the Port of Spain. Stationary.

Avoid Halifax. Avoid it like the plague. I am more worried patrolling around Halifax than I am trying to infiltrate Scapa.

u35, what happened to at Halifax? I tried it a few days ago and did pretty well (modern tanker and a troop ship) which isn't saying anything at all.. lol
