Apparently my browser was "protecting me" from downloading the Gamefront files. In the end once I hit the download button several times I saw half of the sentence reading "If the download doesn't start click here".

GWX and bins are downloading as well as other recommended programs.

As suggested I don't want to start with "mod soup". I will probably start with GWX and SH3 commander (thanks for the link). It has been mentioned that there is no need for Harbor Traffic.

I have heard there are mods that make the harbors themselves look better.

Also I wondered if there was a need for an environmental (not user interface) mod with GWX?

That and it would be nice to do the occassional seperate mission with a surface ship - any suggestions?

Well to each their own. Not only with mod soup, but you start getting into system requirements. So use jsgme to add mods as you wish, then if you don't like, you can take it out.

If your adding GWX and your system is decent enough you can add in this after wards

So Grey Wolves Expansion and SH3 commander have been successfully installed and working just fine. Thanks everyone.

Any recommendations as to a surface ship that I can play around with on single player missions?

Are you using a download manager? subsim.com doesn't seem to like download managers! I just use the default browser download to get stuff from subsim.

I was using the default browser to download from gamefront - both internet explorer and foxfire. Once I used the "if your download doesn't start click here" the problem was solved.
