Silent Hunter II-silent running fix

Is there a separate patch to make Silent Running work right? I have read everywhere that it is completely wonked out and from what I have seen in game, I am inclined to agree.

While I am aware that Project Messewertz has the fix, I am not ready to install this mod due to the fact that the easiest way for me to hold LAN parties is to use the stock dedicated server. PM does not have this option and my router is NOT gamer friendly when it comes to port forwarding.
