Default Manual Targeting!

OK... I have been playing through the tutorial and actual targeting in combat and am lucky to get a hit on the stern of a moving target. i go through all of the procedures, even recalculating the speed (15seconds plus) and I can't get the hang of it. I used to be a Navy Officer so I am trained on target angles (angle off the bow) and have become very familiar with the identification process so the ships are correctly identified.

All my shots seem to pass behind the target. I can't seem to alter the angle off bow or manually increase the speed to get the torpedo to adequately lead the target. I have looked for cheats etc on the net and have not found anything helpful.

HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT AT 100% REALISM?!

Did you mean the 3min 15 sec rule? You can also use the nonogram that is moddened into some of the maps. Your problem sounds like a wrong speed setting.

I'm using the speed derived from the notepad (locking on the ship for 10-15 seconds). I am not sure what you are refering to with the 3 min 15 sec rule.

"distance traveled (in meters) in 3 minutes 15 seconds divided by 100=speed in knots.(EX: 700 meters in 3:15=7 knots)"

another method is to wait till the target ships bow crosses your verticle crosshair, and start a timer [dont move your periscope during this] and wait till the ships stern crosses the line and stop the timer, next you pull up the recongition manual to check the ships length - lastly you plug in all the numbers into this equation, you're sum is the target ships speed

Ship Length in Meters * 1.94) / Time in Seconds

thats just one method of many [i use the timer from bow to stern with an AOB wheel I input everything into]
So......does that mean that I have to use the TDC in addition to the solution on the notepad? The game tutorial leads one to believe that all you need is the notepad in the upper right hand corner.

Negative, you don't need the TDC to calculate any of these, the AOB wheel i use goes around my attack periscope, it doesnt come stock with GWX or vanilla, and even then its not a must, it just speeds things up for me [i use H.sies acm reloaded GUI]

How do you make changes to the notepad speed calculation or input the speed from calculations you have made with wheel / crosshair etc?

To input calculations i do use the TDC [the miniature version thats on the right of my attack periscope] -- the notepad for finding speed is non existent with my GUI, i HAVE to do the 3.15 marks or the timing method from bow to stern - there are a few more methods for manually finding speed, but those are the two i use [depending on targets range and AOB]

when i said the TDC is not needed, i meant its of no use for me when trying to calculate the ships range, AOB, or speed - i use it purely to enter those settings as i get them

heres a link to the gui i use, GUI

Thanks so much! I don't want to give up 100% realism unless it becomes impossible to use in the heat of battle. After all...all the captains used their officers to help in the attack. I'm leaving for Phoenix and will be gone until Monday. Please, any other input would be greatly appreciated!

Dear OLC Mod user Flotilla members,

I have some questions about OLC mod, I want to try it but I don't know how to install and where to find.

1. Where can i find the latest version ?

2. Is it compatible with GWX ?

3. Is it hard to use ?

You can download it from subsim downloads. It is compatible with GWX but not compatible with some GWX mods. I would use JSGM to uninstall all mods then install OLC to your SHIII Mods folder and then activate it via JSGM. You can then activate your other mods and let JSGM tell you if they will work.

There is a learning curve with OLC. I think he did some video tutorials but I dont know where they are.
