Would I get a CTD...

....from changing the amount of renown earned? I changed the amount for returning to base to motivate me to go back and not just hit return to base...I know..I'm weak. Had two CTD since. Any chance there is a relationship?

Probably not, but it won't work. The renown for returning to base has been broken from day one, and you don't recieve it at all.

I always drive home because it's fun, for me at least.

I just know I'll run into an unescorted convoy of slow troop transports with no torps on my way home....in heavy weather....I would hate to take that chance.....

Did you edit the basic.cfg when you were in the middle of a patrol? That's the only reason I can think of for a CTD, changing the value in that line from 0 to some other number shouldn't do it. But almost all modding needs to be done only when you are safely in base otherwise your saved games for the current patrol may crash out on you.

Unless something accidentally got changed in the basic.cfg that you didn't intend to change and got saved into the new version.

yes i was in base, as a matter of fact it was a new career...maybe just a coinsidence, next patroll went fine.

Could be, but as stated previously, if you want extra renown you'll have to crank up the amount for reaching and/or patrolling the assigned grid for 24 hours. Anything else is just eye candy.

It can happen. I was returning from an Atlantic patrol north of Scotland when my watch crew spotted HMS Nelson and HMS Hood sailing together at night with no destroyer escort. I was in a perfect position to make a night suface approach and attack, but I had expended all my torpedoes and I don't think the deck gun would have cut the mustard! So I let them pass and carried on towards my home port. This adds to the realism for me.

As Steve rightly states.....and only change details whilst in base.
