Had tried to shoot these out before and failed and I just put it down to bad luck but now in a moment of boredom I went up to a Nippon Maru and shot at them point blank with both the the deck gun and the AA to no avail, the searchlights remained indestructible
Sargo class, with 3" deck Gun and single 20mm Flak TMO 2.2 |

Am I to assume then by the silence on this issue that the searchlights are indeed indestructible in SH4?

Blinded by the light .....
Small targets and the crew protects them with their bodies from behind?

I wouldn't worry about lights. Take out the ship and those lights will disappear.

I don't remember stock, but the lights are on to stay in TMO anyway.
It does pose another question, seems I could take out enemy gun crews in stock with my guns, but not with mods probably to do with reworking of damage zones in mods. I've often wondered if search lights even have a value as a visual, like sun or moon. Last edited by Armistead; 09-11-2011 at 06:56 PM. |

I actually like the spot lights. It lets me know exactly where they are without having to strain my eyes.

I reckon the spotlights a pretty redundant on most ships and shining them in the eyes of submarines seems to have the desired effect of making it harder to target specific pieces anyhoo. Question is, can I requisition a spotlight to put on my sub?

Yea, wouldn't let that lil bug stop me. Fact is no one ever thought it that big of a deal and if you're playing TMO2.2 you'll get your arse kicked fighting on the surface anyway, least of my worry is shooting lights.

ALTHOUGH......last nite I played for a bit and caught a Zinbu Maru (European Composite?) at night. The sea's were calmish, sky was clear but moonless so I made a surface attack and got in to about 1200yds without being detected. I fired 3 torps (mk10's) and watched the wakes go in. About 20 sec. before impact, the freighter lit up my torp wakes with a searchlight and opened fire on two of them. I thought it would have been fun to try and take it out (since reading this thread)......but, if I had fired on the searchlight, that freighter woulda beat me up good. Which is PROBABLY what would have happened in real life. TMO rocks. |
