Default Big Dud Issues

And yes, I searched for answers before posting this.

Running GWX, OLC, ACM Reloaded, and that neat patch that fixes the milk cows and stuff. Mid April 41', VIIB, running G7e and G7a torps. Rough weather, so using impact pistols from an 80-100 degree bow angle, not going too deep and bounching off. Some reason, they're all bouncing off, and it's getting old. I've got 8 duds in a row right now.

So here I am a few hundred klicks off Freetown, with 4 internal fish left, and I haven't even damaged a single ship. Any ideas? I've always accepted some duds, I even realize how prevalent they were historically. But 8 in a row, really?

How close are you to your target when you fire? There is a arming distance of around 300M required.

and now I just had a CTD, the first one in weeks, after stalking a convoy for an hour. Some days, I think I should have been a movie star instead.

Eight duds? Sabatoge. That is very strange. Probably mod related, I'd disable one at a time until you find the one causeing the problem.

Huge pay, people wanting to be your friend, women fawning all over you, agents wanting to take you to expensive restaurants, fast cars, private jets, picture in all the magazines, seeing yourself on the big screen...

Who needs it? Sitting in a black pit playing video games is much more fun.

That is odd. The only other thing that comes to mind is whether they are hitting the flat side, or the bottom curve of the ship, and deflecting off the curve.

LOL, Steve.

Hmm. I think I'm so screwed up that I actually prefer the black pit. Or is it just that I'm getting too old to care about fast cars and fawning women.

Then again, it might be possible to have both the pit and the stardom...

Who knows, maybe Sailor Steve is really Brad Pitt, Jimbuna Colin Farrell and Frau Kaleun Natalie Portman. Hiding in the anonimity of the forums.

Oh yeah, and the dud torpedoes. 8 in a row does sound really curious. Might be something wrong with your setup there. Maybe try taking dud torpedoes off and see if they function then?

However, historically 8 in a row has happened. Prien experienced that during the Norway campaign. In the end he had a few eels left, stumbled into a convoy and decided not to attack, since the torpedoes didn't work. Dönitz approved the decision, which kind of tells of the huge amount of frustration felt at the time.

I can't speak for Frau, but Jim's pictures and my pictures are indeed the real us. Jim has a woman who fawns over him (well, since they've been married for a long time it's more like she dumps all over him [but he loves it]). Me? Well, I have my band and my video games. That's about it.

This reminded me of a story someone once told me. According to it a man in ancient Athens told a philosopher that the man's wife had all these nice qualities, but also bad ones, and that the man's mistress had all these other nice qualities, but also some bad qualities, all different from the man's wife, though. He then asked the philosopher which one should he choose. The philosopher answered: "Whichever you choose, you will regret your choice."

I don't know if this story was connected to anything, but I like the story My choice is a bit of a compromise, I have my family and I try to have some time in the black pit too. And yes, I have to keep my pit time limited, otherwise my wife will dump all over me - and I haven't even learned to like that yet.

Update on this... I turned duds off in realism and the problem disappeared. Apparently just a streak of luck.

Now if you turn duds on and experiment playing in 1942/1943 onwards you shouldn't have duds very often. If you still do, then it must be something wrong with your setup. Hopefully it was just bad luck
