Default Slovene Rhapsody

A little article I found in the New York Times showcasing my country

http://travel.nytimes.com/2011/08/07...nes&emc=tha210

She only made two mistakes

Quote:
I faced the only pressing decision one faces in Piran: whether to drink Union pivo (beer) or Lasko pivo. I buckled under the pressure and ordered both.
BOTH are piss. You order a local home-brewn beer or a foreign one.

Quote:
Slovenia has an efficient bus system (veolia-transport.si) and rail network (slo-zeleznice.si/en) with multiple daily departures between Ljubljana and Piran, Maribor and Postojna. Most journeys cost less than 20 euros, or $28.20 at $1.41 to the euro.
Between Ljubljana and Piran, maybe. But once you get into the country the buses drive by the calendar, not the time. And the rail network, a nightmare. Frequent trains yes, but always late. And the highest suicide rate in the world means that there's a big chance someone will make you late by jumping in front of you train (had 3 such incidents myself when I was still studying in Ljubljana)

I haven't drunk any of the mentioned pivos, so I can't tell how they taste.
But in general, this is the rule in any (foreign) town. Always go for the local, microbrewery stuff. With one exception: When in Cologne DO NOT order the local beer there. It is toxic horsepee! I repeat do not, under any circumstances, never, ever drink a local beer in Cologne. It is a serious health risk, to your body and your mind!

Ok, I admit that I am a little prejudiced, because we have a historic rivalty with them and we brew the better beer...

from the article:

a stout woman with fuchsia hair welcomed me
sorry, did not read any further, as I ran to my car and went off with screeching tires, heading south-east

7 is my lucky number - though the gingers there have a little darker voices...

However when you drink "beer" from Cologne, you may end up with her

instead of her:
