Post Gov. Blago convicted

The jury has reach a verdict.
  • guilty on 17 counts
  • not guilty on 1 count
  • no verdict on 2 counts

I can't say I'm surprised or happy or sad. This will make two governors in prison at the same time for Illinois.

He will probably get something like 10 to 15 years. Be out in 7
Kinda sounds like he deserves every minute.

Has there ever been two former governors of the same state serving prison sentences at the same time?

So if they can hurry up with Quinn they might get three in a row before Ricky gets out.

Can we dig up Jim Thompson somewhere?

Iowa just re-elected Terry Branstadt. Might as well keep the set ('80s governors) going.

I was thinking along the same lines.

[One radio talkshow host call Quinn Governor Quinnochio for his going back on his pledges to cut spending and such. He had been personally popular, and considered something of a reformer, but this seems to be changing.]

This is but a shovelfull of crap in a vast mountain, but I am happy that the jury didn't fall for Blago's song and dance.

He'll have to crawl in a few years, and then he writes a book, which sold for large sums of money ..... and laugh all the way to the bank after serving time...

I'm not really sure of all the details but there is a law here that prohibits anyone from doing that, you can't profit from your crime. Not too sure if it would apply in this case but I would think so.

PS If I'm wrong I'm sure someone here can fix that.

I think this would apply to any book about this, but he might still get deals where he appears on some silly reality show or something like that. If he serves more than 6 years, public fascination with him will probably be much less.

What bothers me much more, is the way defeated pols so often get cushy jobs and appointments after they leave. They never seem to have to face the consequences of their actions. It is almost impossible to get rid of them. Several legislators in Illinois, who were defeated, helped pass a unpopular income tax increase here. Shortly afterwards, we find out they were rewarded with nice appointments by the Governor. That's not too corrupt now, is it? Elections don't seem to matter anymore; the pols do as they please.
