Default [REL] Trevally TDC help

Trevally TDC Help v2

TDW UI or MO is required to run these scripts.

Add 3 scripts to your automation page.

1. TDC Checker
This will check your setting in the TDC to ensure it is correct.
This is good when you are learning manual targeting and want conformation your solution is good.

2. AOB Range Finder
This will tell you the target range and AOB when you lock onto target.

3. Solution Finder
This will give you extra information, AOB, Range and Speed. It will also take you through the steps for setting your TDC correctly ready to fire.

See post 2 for guide on how to use the Solution Finder.

All these scripts must be run from your automation page within TDW's UI mod.
Click automation - tutorials - sub - (AOB Range Finder) or (TDC Checker) or (Solution Finder)
You MUST lock onto target.

Tip: use hotkeys from the automation page to start or stop a script.

To Install:-
Unzip in your mods folder and use JSGME to install.
If you use MO or my tutorials - it is ok to overwrite

For easy starting and stopping of these scripts, use the hotkey feature from the automation page.

To get the best results from the Solution Finder, you should only run it when you are in firing range.
1km to 3km will give you very good solutions with a hit chance very high.
3km to 5km will give you a good solution with a good chance to hit.
5km and above, hmmm not so good

Press your hotkey to start the script and click run.
Ensure you are locked onto and set to follow target and have manual target TDC on.
Click next to start the script.

The script will inform you and show you what setting to input into your TDC
This will be with the dials - so ensure you have them on.
As the info builts in your TDC, it will check that you are iinputting correctly.

Here it is informing you of the AOB.
As you can see it is 16. Don't worry about the .4235572815
The 16 deg to starboard will do

Finding speed.

Update to range setting.

When your solution is good - LOS!

I'll try this tonight. I've just started playing with contacts off so I may need some help again. So this essentially "gives you the answer" by telling you the real AOB and range? Good addition for those just learning or re-learning how to target with contacts off.

If you do not want too much help - use "TDC Checker"
It will just check your TDC setting when you ask it and let you know if they are off or good.

Use "AOB Range Finder" to get the real AOB and Range of a target.
With this you can set the speed finder with TDW UI with correct information to get a good speed estamation from your WEPs.
Tip- Use again and reset AOB and Range after using WEPS speed finder.

"Solution Finder" will do all the above, talk and show you through each step.

Default Excellent

Thanks for this.

A general question:

In real life, having the scope up a long time was suicide. In game, putting the scope down loses the information? Loses the lock on?

Suggestion: Numerous peeks for each piece of information, then final look to input final data changes. Realistic. First look, AOB. Second look, range. Third look, course and or speed. Sometime during this, identify target and nationality.

Comments?

You are correct that a real sub skipper would not leave the periscope up. I've often thought that the AI even in IRAI is not good enough at spotting periscopes because in the game you can pretty much leave it up all the time. I usually take my range and bearing readings and then put it down. Sometimes you will have to have the ship identified again but this takes one second if using TDW UIs. You will also have to click the "follow button" again but also doesn't take long. But I always put the scope back down after taking range adn bearing readings. While it's down and I'm waiting for time to pass, I plot the range/bearing readings on the map and drawn the target's course.

What you suggest would be a good method if we didn't have the "AOB reset bug." As it is right now, the AOB will reset to the last entered number every time you put in a new range entry. To compensate for this bug I do the following:

1. ID Target. (Must do this first or stadimeter won't work)
2. Take range/ bearing readings as discussed above.
3. determine target course. Draw target course.
4. Calculate target speed
5. Determine ahead of time where I will be firing. ( usually fire when the target passes my 350 degree bearing or my 10 degree bearing (if its going right to left.)
6. Based on the target's course, determine what the AOB is for that SPECIFIC firing bearing (again, I choose 350 (from left) or 10 (from right) because it usually has the torpedo meeting the ship at almost 90 degree angle) SET THE AOB for that BEARING.
7. Now you can take more range readings as the target gets closer as you please.
8. Take one final range/bearing reading with stadimeter as the target passes your predermined firing bearing. When you do this, it will automatically set the AOB back to the correct one
9. FIRE!

TDW's UI has a fix for that AOB bug. It wont reset your aob each time you do range, instead it will reset your range each time you change your AOB lol...

But now that he has the little red things on the speed and aob dials you just click that and your settings wont change

I use those red buttons but the AOB still changes in my game every time I enter a new range. Do I have to download something seperate? I have the latest TDW NewUI version.

You have my attention...

EDIT: Seriously, if you could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong I would really appreciate it. I use the TDW UI dials and set range, speed and aob inputs with the red buttons. But no matter what I do, my stadimeter will ALWAYS reset my AOB back to the last number I input.

Ok. I found the below post that Trevally made a few months ago when I asked the same question then. To confirm, we have to always use the dials and not the XO text box? While this will help, I still consider it a bug that would be great to fix. The AOB should always persist across stadimeter calls. At least it always has in past SH games.

I'll try this when I have time. Thanks again Trevally.

"If you are using TDW UI and you send AOB to TDC, it will stay set.
Adding range by stati wont change this setting.

If you MOVE your scope and take a range - AOB snaps back to pre-set.

To get around this:-

Set AOB and send to TDC. as ship move, AOB will track.
Just before taking your final range reading - open TDC and move AOB up or down a few deg, then back to where it was. You can now use stadi for range as long as you dont move your scope.

This bug will only happen when moving your scope. (I think)"

Yes thanks Ramond, yes this is good practice. Peaking with your scope is the safest way. Unfortunately this can't be done with the solution finder.

To reduce the chance of your scope being spotted, you must keep it low.
Do not lose your "follow target" lock when using the speed function as it will not work if you do.

So beware you do not lower your scope too much where a large wave could cause this to happen.

When you are comfortable with the process, you can complete the sulution and fire within 2 mins. Thus reducing the risk further.

Wonderful mod!
I came back recently to play SH5 and I installed sobers megamod, which includes your

Trevally Tutorial - All v0.2(for OHIIv1.3)
Trevally Automated Scripts v0.6
Trevally Harbour & Kiel Canal Pilot v2.9

I´m using TDW UI 7.2.0. After starting a campaign, I checked the automation feature, section Tutorials. I found the TDC Checker and the AOB Range Finder, but being a TDC rookie, I think I will need the Solution Finder script to start practising step by step.

Now, 3 questions
1. Can I enable this mod along with your 3 other mods mentioned above?
2. If so, should I enable it after them (ie: in the 4th place)?
3. Can I do this mid-patrol, or should I wait to get to port?

Thanks so much for the mods and the help

The order of these four mods does not matter - so long as they are after TDWs UI

Mid patrol is fine for this one
