 What is this weird structure at the stern in the last picture supposed to be? My guess would be that it was attached after the boat went out of operation. |

that would definitely be a prop guard.
it would keep the screws from swinging into the wharf. also, to keep from sucking in nets and mine cables. I've seen similar guards on battleships and destroyers.
