There is no DiD. If you really want to play that way, then you'd have to give up the game for life.
That's DiD. Now, just imagine how much more intense it would be then.

Haven't really incorporated many rules. Still new-ish to the game and accustomed to point-and-shoot habits I picked up from other games. This lack of discipline on my part is leading to strange consequences, though. I kind of miss the good old days when I'd be hunted for hours on end. A couple of patrols ago I actually began seeking out opportunities to get depth-charged. You know you're bored when you taunt the destroyers.
![]() I guess it's time for me to increase the realism factor.

Set the realism to 90% or above, that should pick things up a bit.

I guess about the only thing I probably do differently is play with "No-Fatigue" using SH3 commander. U-Boat commander has better things to do than to tell Bernard when his watch is up (which should be always, go back to bed Bernard)
Only problem of course, is two weeks into a Patrol my crew is just as happy as when we left port. But I still think it's "More Realistic" than managing individual members of the crew. |

It would be cool if in order to reload external torpedoes your sub actually set up the rigging on deck to do it, and the crew was exposed on deck, and you could not dive!

Fatigue is disabled but, the crew is assigned to their GQ stations permanently. No moving personel, at all. Both engine room and electric motor compartment fully manned.
Both torpedo compartments manned. Damage control takes what's left. 4 officers total. 2 watch. 1 engineer. 1 quartermaster (not realy an officer). No officer assists in DC, Torpedo, or Engine Rooms. No more than 1 PO promoted per patrol. No external torpedo reloads carried. No stern reloads for start of war VIIs and IXs ("A"), as their stern tubes were external. They also had to be fired while submerged. A qualified torpedoman is still required in the aft compartment. Boat must be at 50 or 100 meters deep, and not in contact with enemy warships to begin reloading torpedoes. (It takes my guys 24 minutes per tube.) 3 knots maximum for using periscopes. 2 knot maximum in the vicinity of shipping. I try to reach my grid in a reasonable amount of time. After reaching my grid I try to return by the most productive route, ordnance permitting. All torpedo expenditures, sinkings, and convoy sightings are to be reported to BDU in a reasonable amount of time, via radio. Surface attacks on dark nights. Submerged attacks during daylight hours, or when sufficiant light is available. (Clear moonlit night, pre-sunrise, OSV.) 100% realism. Manual targeting. No contacts on chart. Drive manualy to and from port. (Sometimes I'll not use any waypoints for the duration of a patrol, but that's no fixed rule.) No playing cowboy with the deck, or flak, gun (self explanatory). Each of my boats has IT's own carreer, as opposed to a personal carreer for me. My boats compete with eachother. I just try to survive from war's start on, as far as possible. |

My rules are
- DiD, unless there is some external reason for it such as a compter crash or something. -T1 only for externals -only can load externals at slow speed on the surface when I can use the deck gun/flak -I work to my patrol grid and patrol it for 24 hours plus a standard grid search If there is a ship sighted near on my way out, I do reserve the right to go hunting it. -I check the flags of all ships before sinking them, however a merchant without lights at night is thought to be legal under the prize rules. -instead of a negitive renown for neutral, its a half credit, (as I have GWX they are not colorcoded) but I check the flags. Also it prevents odd stuff like sinking a french tramp ship and finding out afterwords that the computer thinks it is neutral even if france is at war with germany. -I don't try to duke it out with aircraft or miltary ships with the deck gun or flak. Aircraft sighted means Alarm and dive, not trying to pick them off. - I will use the flak to take out spotlights on merchants and I will use the deck gun on unarmed merchants when it is safe and able to do so. |

2 external G7a as you correctly stated as batteries on electrics couldnt be maintained outside 2 G7a forward and 1 G7a rear internal as stowed under deck so not accessable for battery maintenance Should imagine the IX had a similar arrangement internally Not seen a manual for one of those though VIIC manual http://www.filefront.com/16383685/M....VIIC-1940.pdf/

Interesting read, seeing how other's approach the game their way.Must implement a couple of new rules from the lists here into my own game, such as only reloading when submerged (must turn off the auto reload) and loading the externals at all stop.
Thanks for sharing

I do just about the same as everyone else here (Basics) except I use the action cam (I forget the name, that one in the corner) so i can take pics if something is happening. I make daily reports to HQ at 00:00. After I report a convoy I shadow it for around 6 hours to wait and see if the Luftewaffe feel like getting up (They seem to be lazy)

![]() I make mine at the base-time hour closest to when I departed. I figure with so many boats at sea they want them spaced out some. I include my 4-digit grid location, course, wind (up to 30 m/s via multiplying by SH3 Commander's wave-height modifier), sea state (based on that using the Beaufort Scale) and wave height (using the same).
