Default [REL] Realistic ammo amount for AA and deck guns

Just a simple correction to change amount of AA and deck gun rounds to real world values.

20mm AA guns now have realistic 4260 rounds, twice more for double-barrelled guns.

37mm now have 1195 rounds.

Amount of 88mm deck gun rounds also changed to realistic 250 rounds (110 AP + 140 HE).

JGSME compatible.

Not sure how many rounds the deck gun had already, but I'll add this mod.

How did you determine those values?

250 rounds together seems to be a little bit to much. Imho, only the long range boats like Type IXD should have so many and even then they only have them sometimes (Blairs "Uboat War").
But maybe I´m wrong.....

Hi,

I found this ammos in
Bodo Herzog - Deutsche Uboote 1906-1966. Page 195 ff.:

Type VII A:
1x 8,8 cm / 1x 2 cm (250 / 4380)

Type VII B:
1x 8,8 cm / 1x 2 cm, later 1x 3,7 cm / 2x 2 cm (1195 / 4380)
(I think here are the 250 Shells missing for the 8,8)

Type VII C (VII C 41/42)
1x 8,8 cm / 1x 3,7 cm / 2x 2,2 cm (~250 / 1195 / 4380)
later in war, there where no standardized arms on this type.

Type VII C 42
1x 8,8 cm / 1x 3,7 cm (1195) or 4x 2 cm (12000)
(I think here are the 250 Shells missing for the 8,8)

Greets,
Paco.

I've never seen those types of numbers before (other than the 250 rounds for the 8.8cm) If you do a search of interrogation reports at Uboatarchive.net, you'll see that most boats carried about 2,000 rounds per gun for their 2cm and 3.7cm guns and varying amounts of 8.8cm ammo (never AP, BTW).

Hi,

During the war, the ammo of the VII has changed very often. In 1943 the U441 and other boats have had 3,7 cm Flak (1160 Rounds) and 2x 2cm Vierlingsflak (6000 Rounds). Another Boats carried only 220 Rounds for the 8,8

Not so easy to find the right ammo

Is there anywhere on-line that has details on number of ammo for each weapon? I have a few pdf books on the u-boats, but nothing in details on the amount. I've come across mostly deck gun 88mm number of rounds on the boat.

This site says, 250 rounds for the 88mm deck gun:
http://uboat.net/technical/guns.htm

The same site on another location for all the VII u-boats, 220 for the 88mm deck gun:
http://uboat.net/types/viic.htm

There are no details on how many of those rounds are AP or HE.

So stock game amounts (220 = 120AP + 100HE) and mod amounts are roughly right. Variables could be in those numbers could vary from ship to ship, not a stock for all u-boats in operation.

For the 20mm AA Flak 30 gun, this site showed 1500 rounds (pg.56):
http://www.uboatarchive.net/Manual.htm

1500 is a lot less than mod version, but more than the vanilla version of 240 rounds. I think 1500 seems right, a u-boat would need a fair amount to battle aircraft and small craft.

As far as the 20mm AA Flak 38 and 37mm Flak 42, I haven't come across anything on them.

The vanilla version amounts are:
20mm AA Flak 38 (480AP) x 2, VIIC/41 had two of these bad boys.
37mm AA Flak 42 (800 = 600AA shells + 200AP)
These amounts would seem correct, these are bigger AA guns and bigger rounds that took up more space. But haven't came across any literature on these yet.

So I could see a realistic amount being:
Deck Gun 88mm: 250 (110AP + 140HE) or 220 (120AP + 100HE)
20mm AA Flak 30: 1500
20mm AA Flak 38: 480
37mm Flak 42: 800 (600AA shells + 200AP)

What do you guys think?

I added a new 105mm Deck Gun and 105mm Ammo in my Equipment Upgrade Fixes MOD.
If you want, feel free to adjust ammo quanities for this gun as well.

Here is an excellent source for all naval weapons:
http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_20mm-65_c30.htm

This thread is almost two years old, but since it has been brought back I would like to address one point in the original post.

Quote:

Navweaps states that the standard stowage was 2000 rounds per gun. This is almost certainly for surface ships, and it means there would have to be room for 1000 20-round cans for each gun. Think about space on a submarine. Whatever stowage the modder decides on, there would certainly not be room for twice as many cans to supply a second gun. With twin mounts the available total ammunition would not increase. The twin mount would have twice the firepower, but half the effective ammo supply.
