Default U-boat distress radio call?

I've just begun my 3rd patrol in my Type IIA and recieved a radio message from another uboat saying something along the lines of "one deisel unserviceable, other damaged blah...."

Is this a distress call, and if i was close could i aid it in any way?

GWX? Even if not, it's just mind candy. It's not really there.

There's nothing you can do. If they get help it would be from a surface ship. Your Uboat doesnt have what they need.

There were cases, according to the book "Iron Coffins", when U-boats helped out other U-boats with repairs, supplies, fuel, and ammo.

But in SHIII, the messages are all fake. The only radio contacts that aren't fake are the ones where an actual contact shows up on the map when you get the radio alert.

Some messages are historical, maybe this too. Radio messages about sunken u-boats are historical, they did sink on this time...(while information about lost crew is sometimes incorrect but that is a wartime)

Radio messages such as the one your making reference to are/can be historically accurate but other than specific references to engagements that took place in RL are usually there for immersion purposes only.

And you'll be getting lots of distress calls from sinking merchants. But none from the ones you sink yourself.

And lots of messages from OKM and BdU, most of which are general and don't affect the game. I follow them just for fun if they're addressed to my boat, but again the real purpose is just immersion.
