Default Ahoi zusammen!

Ahoi everyone!

It's good to be apart of a community that shares the same passion for U-boots as I do. I first got interested in U-boots after seeing U-571 in theaters, and although ashamed to admit this now, I really liked it (I had no idea how historically inaccurate and silly it was at the time). When I told my father about it, he laughed and said if I thought that was good, just wait until I saw Das Boot. I asked him what Das Boot was, and a week later, he rented it and I fell in love. I must have watched beginning to end 4 or 5 times that weekend, and a few days later I rushed out and bought it. Since then, I can't even tell you how many times I've seen the film. I highly prefer the uncut version though!

A few years later, SH3 was being developed, and I followed it closely. I rushed out and bought it, but at the time, I was in my first year of college and had little time to play, so it sat on my shelf. Around 2006, I learned of an excellent book called "Shooting the War", by Otto Giese, a U-Boot officer and avid photographer who took his camera with him on patrols. I *highly* recommend this book. Now, interestingly enough, he shares my last name, and I've never in my life heard of someone else with this name besides immediate family members. I'm not sure if we are related or not, and it's something I've been meaning to research, but needless to say, it fueled my passion for U-boots even further. Like Das Boot, I can't even tell you how many times I read that book front to cover.

This obsession with U-boots has also inspired to study German as well. I'm dying to get a copy of some U-Boot memoirs auf Deutsch. Would anyone know where I might find these? Maybe I'll hit up the German forum..

As far as the sim goes, I recently installed GWX 3.0 and have been trying to play a career on full realism from start to finish. I'd love to play online with others though...is this possible with GWX? What about online careers?

I also have SH5, but I prefer SH3+GWX.....I think SH5 has potential, but....I'm disappointed by it

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm eager to make some new friends and learn more about U-boots!
