Default Looking for a map mod

I am wondering if anyone made a different map that replaces the map you use to navigate on. Toward the poles everything is so stretched out and I know that a straight line in these areas as it appears on the stock map is not the shortest path. A globe would be ideal though I imaging having a 3-D model running inside a game already demanding enough on a machine would be taxing.

Also I was wondering if there is a mod that has it so your crew will tell you when they see an iceberg and set tc to 1x rather than allowing you to slam straight into the thing and sink...

Why make a map mod if the current one accurately represents the distances you find in the game? Sure, it's not the same as the real globe. But does it have to? Ubisoft made our world flat and rectangular shaped. Nothing we can do about it. Take it or leave it. It's all hardcoded, and that's even an understatement. The spatial model used ties into the core of almost every game function.

Hmm if it is flat then how do they model ships disappearing and appearing under the horizon?

They just don't. Ships appear at 16 km: small but completely visible. SH3 world is as flat as a table...
