Found this on another forum this morning, some fantastic pictures of U-534 being moved in 4 sections. There's a link to the Flickr page with even more pictures, but here's a sample.

If you look at the pic upsidown it resembles a hungry fish with a case of bug eyes.

Thats pretty cool, really shows you how cramped things were in these boats, even though it's an IXC there isnt much room in there.
Is that really the head (toilet) door? Thats the rear section, rear torp room after the electric compartments? Long way to go for forward crew members. I thought these things only had one toilet, or did the IXC's have the luxury of two? |

hate to be morbid or macabe......but i wonder what the inside of a raised boat would behold.....if the pressure hull had held and it was lost to lack of air.......

Not something one would want to witness, I doubt its likely to happen, or ever happen though. Even if the pressure hull was intact when it sank it wouldnt take too long for leaks to appear. Not to mention seals/valves would go before anythign else. Didnt Uboats always leak, valves/seals etc... it was a matter of pumps being able to keep up with the seepage. However a modern sub would be a different story... |

Great post and link! Fascinating cuts. Almost looks like sectional assembly they use now in all shipbuilding. I will have to research how they assembled subs back then.
Below the head you can see the downpipe leading to what looks like a holding tank and overboard pump thru hull. Isolate the turds from the bilge. "Herr Kaleun, Weingarht did not pump ... and the poopinschtinkin is overflowing onto the turninscrewshaftkazuntite." Weingarht scrambling down passage knocking bratwurst links aside - "Permission to pass, permission to pass ... some ting ist exhplodin again!!" "Aaaallllaaaarm! S'PC

Nice pics! Thanks for posting
It is a shame they had to cut her up, but if it means that she is preserved instead of scraped, then it's better than nothing! |

Too bad they never tried to restore the interior. But I think they were never really interested in the boat but just in it's cargo.
