UPDATE: Download the SH4 Tirpitz here:
http://files.filefront.com/ZWs+Tirpi.../fileinfo.html My work to eliminate the flicker, which has been reduced to an noticeable degree is done. To totally deal with the flicker problem I believe now that this would have to be done at a deeper programing level then I am capable of at this time. This is an AI ship for SH4. Also added a new 1941 color scheme. Way to go GEROME! thanks yamato1 for informing me of Gerome. SH4 now has the battleship KM Tirpitz. The model is a creation by Gerome made for SH3. And is excellent in quality. The texture quality is very good and I am therefore very impressed with this ship. My work was simply assigning a SH4 '.val' file and editing this new Tirpitz.val file. To make this AI ship more realistic I also re-worked additional files to enable the 20Kilometer engagement range. This area I am still working on, my plan is to increase this to 32.18Kilometers (20miles) engagement range. This may sound out of scope with the limited German radar but in reality the use of telescopic range finders were common and reliable for line of sight engagements. I love to watch battleship action. Especially the underdog German navy, known as the Kriegsmarine. Who took on the overwhelming forces of the Capitalist and Communist nations. -ZeeWolf Tirpitz on the offensive ![]() She opens fire... ![]() Pressing the attack she fires again. ![]() She shows some hits, but her armor is strong VORAUS!

I really didn't know that. My motive is not accuracy at the 20 mile range but the aggressiveness of opening fire at that range. I like the scenario of full steam ahead into blazing gunfire. And let me mention the awesome effect of the gun flash over the horizon, its beautiful man!. -ZeeWolf |

Well, you're right ZeeWolf. While in both of Bismarck's battles fire was opened at around 21,000 yards (10 1/2 miles) the weather in both cases wasn't the best. On February 17 1944 USS Iowa and New Jersey engaged a Japanese light cruiser, Katori, two destroyers and a trawler. The cruiser was attacked and severely damaged by carrier planes. The battleships finished off the cruiser (46 16" and 124 5" shells!?) one destroyer and the trawler, and gave chase to the other destroyer, Nowaki.
The battleships opened fire at 35,000 yards, and continued firing by rangefinder, radar and spotter plane until the destroyer disappeared at 39,000 yards. Since at that range the shells were taking more than a minute to reach the target, Nowaki's captain later reported that when he saw the flash from the guns he would immediately take evasive action, avoiding the battleships' shells by a fair amount. Ignoring the fact that they didn't hit, it remains true that they could have hit, and they obviously thought it worth a try. So you're right, they should open fire at extreme range in the game. They just shouldn't have much chance of hitting anything at those ranges.

Wow again Sailor Steve, that is some amazing accounts. One must wonder how much
effect 16inch shells roaring in your direction have. I imagine Nowaki's captain even though there was a slight chance of being hit, for a full minute must have been gripped with terror. Each miss there must have been cheers all over that ship even if the celebration was brief. |
