So basically my career is over huh?
Even if everything else works? Is there any way to edit the ships damage so I can just get back to base? I dont want to lose my career. |

I had a similar problem not long ago ... never really found the solution but got a good deal of the way there.
The save games are in the folder documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames it seems. Each save game gets its own folder with an 8 digit hexadecimal number. The replayinfo.rep file contains the name of the save game. If you have multiple you'll probably need to look in these files to find the right save game. The file called "ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc" contains the different parts of the sub along with info on damage (and a load of other things like crew member info). The port propeller shafts from one of my save games (a S-18 class boat ... I don't know if that has any significance, I'm rather new to editing these things) looks like this: Code:
[UserPlayerUnit 1.Compartment 1.EquipmentSlot 4] ID=EqSlot13 NameDisplayable=Port Propeller Shaft Type=NULL AcceptedTypes=NULL UserCustomizable=No ExternalNodeName3D=NULL ExternalDamageZoneTypeID3D=72 IDLinkEquipmentLoaded=PropellerShaft [UserPlayerUnit 1.Compartment 1.EquipmentSlot 4.Equipment] ID=PropellerShaft NameDisplayable=Propeller Shaft EquipmentInterval=1900-01-01, 1999-12-31 EquipmentSlotType=NULL ExternalLinkName3D=NULL FunctionalType=EqFTypePropellorShaft Hitpoints=100.000000 EfficiencyHumanFactor=1.000000 EfficiencyMechanicFactor=1.000000 Efficiency=1.000000 Damage=0.000000 DamageHitpointsConsumed=0.000000 RemainingRepairTime=0000-00-00 00:00:00 DamageDescription1=NULL,0,0.2,0,1,1,small malfunction,0,0,NULL,0.3,0.4,11.9228 DamageDescription2=NULL,0.2,0.6,0,1,1,Misaligned Axis,0,0,NULL,0.5,0.4,1.68243 DamageDescription3=NULL,0.6,1,0,1,1,Broken Axle,0,0,NULL,1,0.6,8.37275 Code:

Hope it works out for you! -Lee

Lee...
Thanks for the clipping, but unfortunately my damaged sub has the exact same details as your whole one. This leads me to think that actaul damage is contained in some other file somewhere. I am supposing that I'll just have to abandon ship and start again. I dont have a good save point to go back to unless I start the whole patrol over. dang it. |

I'd really like to find out how the damage is recorded (had to load an earlier save game because the game apparently doesn't support running on one engine. Made me feel like a dirty little cheater - I'd definitely prefer limping home ingloriously to just loading a game).

Hi guys,
just had the same thing happen while attacking a convoy. tired for a half hour to get the crew to fix it. tried to drag it into the priorty box. nothing worked until i was sunk by 2 destroyers. but luckly i save the game before i ran into the convoy. but now i see that there was nothing i could do to fix it. even went to free view and saw that the screws were turning but just didn't move the boat |

The dumb thing about this is while I was trying to repair the stupid things, a US Navy Destroyer comes cruising by the scene and just passes on by.
Im like Hel-lo....lend me a hand or something buddy. Still rotting in the middle of the Java Sea |

Toast: that's your career if you have two busted shafts. And don't expect Mr. Destroyer to drop by on a social call. He can't fix your shafts and he's got a war to fight. You are expendable now. The most that will happen is a ship to take off your crew and help you scuttle your boat with some gunnery practice.
War is hell.
