Post Harbour Escort

Does anyone here bother using the escort if provided from their home or friendly port????
Was just wondering if its really worthwhile. I tend to if nothing but for some form of realism.

WELCOME ABOARD!

I usually follow them just for realism's sake - I like to take my time and look at the sights anyway. The mods that put the escorts in also put in subnets and mines. In Kiel or Wilhelmshave it doesn't matter too much, but some of the French and Norwegian bases can be pretty tricky. Either follow the escort or use the 'minefield' charts.

I follow them out marking each turn on the map so I can plot my own way back in and not have set waiting on the escort to go back in.

And just for fun...here's a picture from the 1941 German Movie U-Boote Westvarts, which was filmed with a real u-boat, showing the boat taking its leave of the escort!

Yeah, I follow the escorts sometimes, a beautiful sight it is! Very helpful too, keeps me out of those dang nets. But right now I am stationed in Kiel...Some U-boats did follow destroyers for campaigns as well, from the dock to the sea on various missions. As U-255 was suppose to be with Bismarck.

i tend to follow them more closely as allied air power increases in the Bay of Biscay... usually a boat length behind them.

Its been my experience that the flak boats go further out to sea... stay within a few hundered meters of them and it can be a life saver.

Its nice to have the extra AA guns on that escort blazing into the sky when you need them.

I tend to stay well clear of the escorts, since I usually TC right into them! Wouldn't be the first time I was rudely awakened out of TC with an eerie scraping noise

"Did you by chance ram your escort while using TC?"

Was just commenting on your...'incident'.

I've embarrassed myself more than once, just been lucky enough not to do it on an escort.

You might want to post that here as well:

Haha, the most laughable career topic? I do have SOME dignity left!

Or did I leave that with the escort?
