Default GWX issue

Hey there, I am having a strange problem with SH3 + GWX2

I cannot use the deck gun. Had no problems using it earlier before I installed GWX2... but now it says I have no ammo. I look at my weapons loadout and I have 110 rounds, but when I man and use the deckgun it says I have 0 rounds.

What gives? I have to sink small ships with my 20mm!

When you man the DG, just select the HE ammo to load and you'll be fine. Either that or be a Kaleun and simply order your crew to do the work they are paid for.

like Tarjak said, click the HE shell emblem in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

in real life, U-boats did not sail around with a round "chambered" ready to go. imagine the thing exploding in the chamber at depth

also, a lot of hard work went into the amazingly well written and organized GWX manual there are a lot of secrets to be learned within its pages, open it up and skim through it... you will learn a lot about what this amazing mod does for you

Does that mean that if you don't man the gun yourself they WILL load and fire it without help?

If so, that's a relief. The captain never shot the gun himself, and neither will I.

ACtually Sailor Steve that is incorrect. Teddy Shuren (Kpt of U564) used to fire his deck gun all the time (and was considered one of the best artilleryman in the Uboat arm of the Kriegsmarine).

Read that in a book called "U Boat War Patrol".... great book. Had a bunch of photos that were taken for propoganda during a Carribean patrol of his. These were found in someones attic years later and the author used them along with Shuren's patrol diary to write the book.

Yes Steve. I never man the gun myself. The crew are better shots than me anyways.

Also I couldnt get my crew to load the deckgun (click on the HE shell to the right) without a Weapons officer on the bridge....

I just tried loading without a Deck Officer and had no problem.
:hmm:

That'll teach me say things like "never".:rotfl:

Still, it was more the exception than the rule. Sometimes I do like to aim and fire myself; I was just concerned about having to do it when I didn't feel like it. I find that in games like these the player can shoot much better than the AI, and it skews the results somethin' terrible.

Agree with you there Steve... I like to stay on the bridge and watch with my UZO and act like Im directing the deck gun crew....

I use to find that I was a much better shot than my gun crews. This was with stock. Now that I'm playing with GWX I think that it's about 50/50. In stock I never had to contend with ship's lights blinding me at night. It totally throws my aim off sometimes as it's hard to depress the deck gun low enough for hull & waterline shots when "we're" in really close. From further out I get the IWO to call out the target's distance & adjust my sights accordingly.

P.S. A little tip from the GWX manual (I think): when starting your patrol order the deck gun to be manned & get the gun crew to load a round. Then return them to their regular bridge duties. That way you'll always have a round chambered and ready when you need it most (especially if you've set the reload times in SH3 Cmdr to 10 seconds for the 88 and 12 seconds for the 105).
