Talking Shadowing convoy

I'm shadowing this BIG convoy,16 or 18 ships...The seas are extremely high and I cant see well from the attack periscope even at a depth of 40'..Also when I do see them in the scope the thing amajig on the left of the screen wont tell me what kind or how close...So I'm waiting for the seas to calm or full dark so I can try a surface attack..Any comments?

What DT says and you won't get anything on the thingahmajig (TDC) till you get to within 7500 yards or so. Use your sonar to get a range estimate and a better feel for the course and speed, if you got the nomograph then its somewhat easy. Trust me the only class I ever got a D in school was trig and calculus(sp).

Default It's kind of a stretch but....

This is a great time to study up on WernerSobe's sonar only attack procedure. You can actually use the fact that you can't see (and they can't see you) to your advantage! Save the game first so if you blow the attack you can go back and try it again. This is the time to learn something really fun and make new homes for millions of fishies! Save that game though.

This situation is very rare and it's the perfect setup to learn the sonar only attack: the most fun you can have in Silent Hunter 4. Go get em!

That vid looks promising to me Rockin Robbins. I too was just wondering would you always need to be at peri. depth or surface to get enough of a fix on the enemy to attack.

Thanks

Sometimes weather is so bad Clayp, that you can not see an enemy vessel unless your within 300 metres

Stick with it Clay! I was confused with it at first too...but when you get it, it IS satisfying- just as Rockin Robbins suggested. What helped me was to try Sobe's method and keep cross referencing the attack map solution.

GOOD LUCK!

No I havent yet..I was very close to them,I have the game set so it does the fireing solutions but it dosent seem to be working.. It wont give me any ship types,no triangles and no distance to the ships.. I tried to surface and keep a low profile but the waves are towering over the boat... I'm still following them...How long does it take for the sea to calm down a bit?

Default Get 'em Clay! We're cheering for you!

And for those brave souls wanting to try sonar targeting, it depends on what mods you're using. If you're running the stock game it probably won't matter much. With Trigger Maru and Real Fleet Boat sonar has been severely hampered on the surface and you should be at periscope depth. In r/l sonar on the surface during a storm would be terrible anyway.

Let us know what happens Clayp, no matter what. If all you get out of it is a good story, that's a fine payoff!

I've had to cross whole latitudes to see a change, but that could just be me.
