I shot a torpedo at a c3 the other day, it shot at me and set off the torp right out the tube. I sank.

Dammit! How unlucky do you have to be to get that happen to you? I bet the captain of the C3 was peering through his binoculars and doing a little dance when he saw you explode!

Crikey! Talk about a bad run of luck!
Can't say I've ever heard of that before, sounds like a shot in a million!

Welcome aboard, NoMan. On stock I used to regularly engage armed merchants, usually to good effect. Your case is one of extreme bad luck.
On GWX, surface combat is a suicidal endeavour.

The worst I've had it with Merchants was one occasion where I was closing in on this guy and he got a few lucky shots, damaged vital equipment and when I dived it just sank out of control!

Merchants can safely be sunk by deck gun as long as you know where their guns are. If their gun is on the stern, approach from directly on the bow and vice versa.
If it's a Liberty Ship, forget it - they're like floating fortresses! Best merchant moment? I came across a convoy of three merchants escorted by a single Black Swan. Sunk the Swan with a head on torpedo then surfaced to take on the merchants. Found out they were all armed when I surfaced, but the forward two ships only took 1 or 2 rounds to sink. It was only later that I worked out the rear ships were firing at the front ships while trying to get me, greatly reducing their hull integrity and I was lucky enough to fire the coup de grace on each of them and got credit for all three.

I got sunk by one once too, but not directly
It shot me a few times, and when I went to periscope depth a few days later, the sub sank instantly. I guess I got shot up pretty bad eh?

My friend, my friends...listen to me! The enemy has gotten more skilled about how to counter a torpedo! I've shot torpedoe's at armed merchants & warships..they have made countless shots at my torpedoes until they were destroyed. Watch out fellow comrades, make it salvo next time!
