Is this possible?

The command room "screen shake" when a depth charge attack is close by is more of a gentle rocking motion... is it possible to create a mod that causes a more violent/earthquake style screen shake like you see at 22 seconds in this video?

I know that Nvdrifter made a mod called Depth Charge Shake...not sure, but I think the latest version is still 1.03 - from a while ago - and I don't think it's compatible with GWX2.0, if you're using that.

Changes/ fixes in v1.03:



A) There are now 3 different strengths of depth charge blast shaking effects-

I made 3 different strengths to try and please a larger audience of players. There is a difference between each strength version. Not a huge difference, but some difference. Only install one version at a time. Be carfeful when installing with JSGME. I have abandoned the extreme shaking effects in v1.02 due to the fact that it was making some players sick.



B) Much less u-boat side to side rolling action-

This was done to get the right depth charge shaking effect. Please be aware that it does also tone down the rolling action while cruising on the surface. There was no way to avoid this, as the u-boat will roll the same whether on the surface or submerged. If you really don't want to lose the side to side surface rolling action, then you can delete the submarine folder in Depth Charge Shake v1.03 before installing. But if you decide to do this, please be aware that the interior cameras may act strange when the heavy side to side rolling motion starts.

Changes/ fixes in v1.02:


A) Found and squashed the bug that was causing the fore command room camera to permanently zoom in sometimes after heavy, prolonged depth charging.




Changes/ fixes in v1.01:


A) Greatly reduced the badly shaking compartments when cruising on the surface in bad weather-

There is still a slight shake sometimes in heavier seas when cruising on the surface, but I had to make compromises to get the correct shaking effect when being depth charged. Please remember that when this shaking sometimes happens, the u-boat is cutting through large waves on the surface, so this slight shaking effect should be somewhat realistic (hopefully!).



B) Doubled shockwave impulse radius for depth charges and bombs-

Shockwave impulse radiuses for bombs and depth charges was doubled to give a slight underwater shaking effect from farther away depth charge and bomb explosions. But distant explosions still won't be felt. Explosion damage and impulse strength for all bombs and depth charges was unchanged. Only impulse distance was increased.



C) I redid this mod using only the original GWX files, therefore this mod is only for use with GWX. It will probably work with other mods too, but it was specifically designed for and tested with GWX.



**Everyone please note that I put many hours of playtesting and tweaking into this simple (?) mod to try to find the right balance and effect. I had to make a few compromises due to camera limitations and other things, but I still hope everyone will experience some new fear and excitement in SH3 when using this mod.**

Hello fellow SH3 players. Has it ever bothered you that when you are are being depth charged or bombed in SH3, the close falling charges or bombs never seem to shake your u-boat? Well, it has always bothered me. That gentle rocking back and forth when being blasted with depth charges just doesn't convince me of the immense danger outside of my iron tube. This mod was released to deal with that missing feature. With Depth Charge Shake v1.03, your u-boat will shake from nearby exploding depth charges... I mean REALLY shake. If the charge or bomb explodes fairly close to your u-boat, it will shake violently. This does not automatically mean that your u-boat is taking damage, but there is a good chance that it is.Farther away depth charges may only slightly shake the u-boat or not at all. I feel this mod realistically models nearby explosion shock waves striking the u-boat and extreme compartment vibrations/ shaking .

Hopefully now you feel like your u-boat is taking damage, and the big question... "How much longer can she hold together?". I hope Depth Charge Shake v1.01 will immerse you even more into SH3. Turn up your speaker volume and hold onto something tight!




**Known issues**

When taking cannon fire on the surface, the u-boat will violently shake, as if being severely depth charged. Sorry, but this is an unavoidable hard-coded side-effect that I cannot change. Also, if trying to repair on the sea bed floor, the u-boat may eventually take collision damage- even when not moving. This happens especially when your boat has heavy flooding. When this happens, the screen will sometimes shake. Not violently, but it will shake. This is also unavoidable. In rougher seas when cruising on the surface, the u-boat may shake and vibrate slightly sometimes due to large waves hitting the u-boat's hull. I feel that this is somewhat realistic, so hopefully it's not really an 'issue'.


**This mod was specifically designed for and tested with GWX. It may or may not work correctly with other mods. **




Installation:

Simply use JSGME or place the Cameras.dat, Bombs.sim, and DepthCharges.sim files into your Silenthunter3/data/library folder. Place each submarine.sim file into the appropriate submarine folder. Only install one strength version. Do not ainstall all 3 at the same time. Be sure to back up you original files first.

For one much wiser than I: I have been wanting to suggest a mod. It would incorporate the screen shake mod with the actual sounds of depth charges detonating (it contains the sounds of the submarine shaking) at this site:www.uboataces.com. If someone could coordinate the "shaking mod" with the sound mod we really would have something! For those of you who haven't heard these sounds I highly recommend.
