Default Strange encounter in North Sea

I am en route for the Isle of Man out of Willemshaven and am about half way accross the Bight when watch Officer reports 'Sub spotted Brg 048'. I dived to PD and listened on Hyd'phone. Yes there's something there. Now this is where it gets strange.

On my chart the sound line is circling my boat about once a minute, yes circling me and I'm doing 6 kts.

At that rate the sub(?) must be very fast or very close.

I check with the camera and yes there's an S Class out there. I can see my scope in the picture too. But I can't see him through the scope. I come up to 10mtrs but still can't see any thing. After a few minutes the phantom sub goes off in a WSW diresction. I think I have just met the ghost of Capt Nemo.

Any one ever had this happen before?

It sounds like the enemy sub was right on the extreme range of your sensors and was 'coming and going' as you were transitting :hmm:

This was how the s-class used to look. I sank it on my first tour with an earlier release GW/GWX, so long ago I can't remember which version it was. I think maybe 1.02, or the original GWX. Perhaps someone else can remember. Near Ireland, October 39.

Maybe it was the creature from the movie "Abyss" or maybe even "Leviathan" or "Deep Six."

Good thing you survived that encounter, kaleun. I've heard of the most disturbing rumors about "creatures" that abduct unsuspecting seamen and use nefarious probings to study them.
