can anyone tell me why when we get radio messages that a task force is at such and such a place that is almost 8oo or 900 miles away, you give your position back as out of range or by the time you get there the force is no longer there

Poor planning by subcom I guess. Try Run Silent Run Deep mod. Flash operational news is a bit better than stock

All forces are on the move. The flash transmissions do not take into account your position, but are instead intended to give a sense there is a big war out there and you are just a part of it. Also, it gives you a feel for areas in the theater were traffic is more dense. You can use this information to position yourself in a likely hot spot when you are free to hunt for targets in that area.
The intel isn't a directive to attack everything on the map. All detected forces are moving and were "spotted" at that position, then contact was lost (that's why they fade over time.) Sometimes you will get an update if that contact is spotted again later. You are only supposed to focus on your current mission. All other contacts are targets of opportunity should you happen to be close enough to them to manouver into position to attack without jepordising your current mission. In other words, don't chase everything you see. -Pv- |

What you need to understand is that there are other subs out there. With the particular message you mentioned, it was intended for Peto. And let me tell you, that message opened up a serious can of whoop-butt
! The Peto raised scope in the middle of that same mentioned task force, panicked and did a Death Blossom. While the rudder was cranked over and going flank, Peto spit out torpedoes fore and aft at 8 second intervals. Naturally, nine of them missed . I'm not sure who was in command , but the patrol was logged and titled by ComSubPac as "Panicky Peto's Pooch Punter". Not one of somebody's better efforts, I assure you.So: The next time you get a radio report of a distant Task Force, you need pay no heed. Just smile, relax and know that, "Peto's got that one".
