Do escorts ever run out of dc's while hunting you? Or is that just my wishfull thinking???

And are they ever inclined to give up and rejoin the convoy because they're leaving it unprotected?

They have a limited number.....don't ask me how many because I don't remember

Nope....they only return to the convoy after a set number of minutes have passed since they lost contact of your sub.....not sure now, but in GWX it's about 30-45 minutes. Can't remember what it is in stock.

There was three. If I remember correctly I think they were on me for an hour and a half. I was evading the dc's OK when they were dropped, but I couldn't get away from the escorts at all.

So I laid it on the seabed, all stop, and they lost interest. Phew!

Actually if you get chased closely evade geting near the bottom because if a dc comes near you and hits the bottom it blows.Thats not nice,not at all

I started a career in '44 last week. Haven't played for a few days but left it off as I was getting hammered by some escorts.


Now for awhile I was evading (depth about 110m - the bottom is 115 ) when I heard them past right over head. I would floor it and / or change direction.
Finally I decided to just go straight and quiet - even when they made their runs - to see if I'd just be able to sneak away.

Since I wasn't going to try to avoid the drops I decided to watch the runs in Free Cam.


And it seemed to me that if the DD had just dropped the D/Cs off the back they would have landed right on top of me. Instead they would shoot a couple off to each side. And since they were right on top of me the distance to the side they shot them caused them to miss me - to either side, obviously.

Sounds to me like they ran out of rear end cans :hmm:

If you watch the release using free cam, you'll notice they expend those at the rear at the rate of something like 3 per rack. The side throwers can only launch one each per pass/run

Perhaps that's it. I didn't actually look at their rear cans. Would it show them as being out if they were?

If so that's pretty cool.

AFAIK there is no actual graphical depiction of empty racks.....rather the crew just cease dropping them over the edge :hmm:
