It's endless. My friend and I just keep dancing around the board, unable to pin the black king or get it to eat the white pieces. What blatantly obvious finishing set of moves are we failing to see?

If neither player claims the draw, play continues (either player may still lose on time). Draw by Repetition. If the same position occurs 3 times (not necessarily on consecutive moves) with the same player to move, either player may point this out and claim a draw. If neither player claims the draw, play continues (either player may still lose on time). Stalemate. If a player has no legal moves on his/her turn, but is not in check, the game is over and the result is a draw. |

It's not technically a stalemate but it's going to be very difficult to force the black king into a checkmate. I'd give up and offer a draw

Would you throw away the rook for a draw?
1/2 Point for a Draw I Point your opponent resigns 2 points Checkmate Unless the rules on points have changed that's how I remember it from a long time ago Any how is this a timed game? A proper game or just a normal game?

I never said it was easy.....
But it is do-able. Worth trying. After all if your playing white, the worst that can happen is a draw.

Did someone remove a post?
I'm sure someone posted before my solution, that checkmate was impossible.

Here's how to manover black into the corner.
http://www.chesskids.com/level2/cl5l7.htm Used to play chess a lot when I was a kid, sure I remember finishing and being finished like this.

A final King + rook vs King is always a win if you play correctly.

Hakahura that is a good website.
This isn't a difficult ending. Drive the black king to the edge of the board and once there drive it to a corner. |

White's next turn should be Ra5-d5 imho. Black must retreat towards the corner and you can do the closing of the prison that Hakahura's link describes. Just keep inching in your rook as long as it cannot be captured or is covered by your king.
