Exclamation Where R The BIG Boats!!

Greetings Comrades,

I have been playing SH3 since day one. And I have yet to see any warships bigger than a DD. Where R U Big Stuff? Are there any? The ID booklet has pictures of Battleships, Carriers, and Cruisers. Is there someplace I can lurk that has a chance to find one of these elusive ships. Maybe even sink one? Are there places that have a higher chance to spawn them or is it just totally random.

its pot luck...some people can play a whole career and never see a fleet carrier lol. Try raiding scapa flow or loch ewe sometimes if your feeling lucky...might catch some of the big fish at anchor.

I run into them so to say semi-frequently. Even sunk one with a typeII.

Try North and around Norway durring the Norway ops. Plenty of task forces reported. Also durring the Bismark senerio and a few t/f groups N of Lock Ewe now and then. usually a cruiser flanked by merchants in convoys headed into Gibraltar from the S/E from the Atlantic. have you tried the Med.?

The Med is FULL of large surface combatants.

But if you really want to find them easier locate and activate the SPY SAT mod...

Some people call it cheating....oh well....much more fun to torp the BB's and CV's than Tramp Steamers...

In GWX you run into them frequently inside convoys during 39-40-41

In my current patrol (playing GWX) I encountered a task force containing an Illustrious class carrier, 2 Fiji cruisers, and destroyer escorts. They were travelling from BE34 on 9/28/39 to AM7535 heading 035 on 9/29/39 to AM3377 where they changed heading to 070 on 9/30/39. I had to set up ahead of them and wait because they were moving at 23knots. Got the carrier and 1 cruiser with 2 torpedos each and escaped safely

Well done Stew, and welcome to this nest of ruffians.

Contact reports should go to Operation Spinnennetz found in the Stickies section of the forum.

The thing about task forces is that you CANT chase them, its ethir intercept or forget about it.

At least itsn ot as bad as in real life, For example Japnese Task forces travelled at 50 knots sometimes...have fun intercept and hitting those wtih torps.

I've found lots of big targets in the Med and also around the coast of Norway. If you want big tankers then the Caribbean is the place to go.

Some things in this software do aspire to reality / history. You just have to find the compliant elements through trial and error.

Is this an unscrupulous method of guaranteeing replay ?

But as buddy Brag and others have pointed out, the early years of the conflict will place in harms way The Big Girls. Then, as spontaneous British warship losses portend a weakening stategy, Churchill will get reamed for jeopardizing the National Assets (and the manpower). Then the Guns will return to safe operations...and Winston will place a long distance telephone call...

I have played many careers and only ever seen a battleship, but never sunk one, or even fired torpedoes at one.
