the Bismarck so far....

im building a model of the Bismarck atm. i know he`s not much to look at now but thought id show you anyway, the photos are not very good because i had to use my webcam as my batteries were dead in my digi cam
hes 4ft long and boasts 23 bulkheads. as an option i can fit a motor to him with a remote control too and with the size of him i can fit .22 guns and give the ducks hell in the pond the outter covering is not finished yet, it has over 100 small strips of wood for the first covering and for the final cover it will be synthetic resin (whatever that is).

Sweet, i should really start realizing one of my ideas after seing this, iv been planing to start making model ww2 era tanks using leftover metal from my work, havent found any drawings of panzers with exact ennough mesaurments for scaling down to something more reasonable, would be using 3mm thick mild steel for the most part.

Is this a setmodel with prebuilt pieces or did you calculate and made them yourself ?

(Though I would prefer some beautifil old and small sailing ship, but it's a matter of taste )

i wish i could make my own bits for it. but unfortunatly i aint that good so all the bits are pre-made and cut by laser, all the bits are very accurate too so no parts arrive that are poor quality (knock on wood).

Nice Id probably do somthing like HMS Victory. Somthing majestic about the old ships of the line. But saying the theBismarch was one awesome looking ship.

Back in the early '80's, I lived in southern California. A close friend and I loved to go fishing in Lake Powell. One day as we docked our rental boat, we noticed a couple of guys on shore fiddlin' with their radio transmitters. One of the boats was a paddlewheeler powered by a small steam engine that used propane to heat the water. But what fascinated me the most was the scale model of the gato class submarine. The man told me that he built it from scratch, ALL torpedo tubes were active and the torps were powered by freon. He put on a little demonstration for me. he went down to periscope depth and headed for a bunch of ducks that were just sitting on the water and then he cut loose with one of the torps. The torpedoes had a long range and scared the holy $%#$ out of the ducks. He had to dig 2 1/2 feet in the mud just to recover the torpedo. He said he really had to watch how many times he dove and surfaced because the tanks were filled with compressed air and had to be refililled periodically. He said he got the original plans and then scaled them down and went to work. Took him close to 2 years to accomplish.

I had a Bismarck once... but my brother threw a fit and threw the thing out in the middle of the lake. It was OK at the time, but he completely tore off the stern with a rock (about an 8 inch piece). It was really neat to watch her sink, but it still pissed me off like hell...
