Did the US experiment with Homming torps like the Germans did with the X class?
Those are awesome to use in SH3. |

You do get them toward the end of the war. They are smaller torpedos (around half the size of the standard 21" torp. They weren't launched from the torpedo tube, they "swim" out under there own power. They had a 50% Hit rate, with a third of all torpedos launched resulting in kills.
They were used to target destroyers that would be hunting the sub after an attack. Even if it didn't kill the destroyer, it would allow the sub to get away. |

I read an account of one being launched from 400'.
