So what would you think of this multiplayer idea?
A main dedicated SH3 server over in a cool dark place at Ubi (or somewhere) hosts a virtual SH3 world wide campaign much like the single player component of the game. The campaign starts in 1939 and plays in real time 1X compression through to the end of the war. players can join any flotilla they wish, and are assigned patrol grids just like in the single player version. you can allow your game to run in the background while you surf the internet, go out to eat, go to work etc....or you can dive to periscope depth, save your game and exit... when you resume you will spawn in the same location but the rest of the world kept evolving around you - as if your u-boat submerged and just went into stasis for a while until you got back. Or you could set default actions for Warship spotted action, merchant spotted action and aircraft spotted action. or receive an E-Mail from your crew to inform you that they have encountered the enemy. basically what im saying is that every time you play SH3 you are no longer playing single player... your playing a single huge unified campaign with every other player in the world who happens to be playing SH3 at the same time you are. When you run across a U-boat in the middle of the atlantic that U-boat is NOT AI... its a U-boat being commanded by another player. when you receive a contact report - it was actually sent by another player in the game - rush to his location, rondezvous with em and participate in the attack together. is this sort of thing currently possible in MP or could such a mod be made? I think it would be fun. just one huge constantly evolving world 24 hours a day 7 days a week that you basically spawn into every time you play SH3. |
