Default Up Side Down Compass In Nav Map

I saw an earlier post about this upside down compass in the Nav Station.
The reply was that it was used for bearing.

Can someone explain this to me. I always thought that a contact bearing was from the bow of the boat. I don't understand how to use this compass.

One thing that makes a game great are forums like this where us newbies can get help.

Thank You

Yeah, I dunno. It's useless to me upside down. I can't get my head around it.

You guys mean the Compass vs. the Rudder when the Command bar is overlayed on the screen?

UP on the compass is your current heading. It rotates as your sub does. If you want to turn towards a compass direction, just click on the representative letter.

No, we're talking about the protractor compass in the Nav map.

Draw a line from your boat to somewhere on the map. The bearing on the protractor where the line crosses is the bearing from your boat to the point you selected. Useful for laying in a course for intercept, etc.

I think what our Komrade is asking about is the compass rose that appears when using a tool. It's used by dragging a line out, from your boat to a target, as you read the bearing off the BACK of the rose as you drag it out....this gives you an actual magnetic bearing from you to him.

If you then go to say the scope or UZO, you would turn to that bearing to see the target.

If that don't help, try Wazoo's great guide....here:
